How it works

  1. Tell us about your book

    Send your manuscript, any images, and where you plan to publish. Examples of layouts you like are helpful too. We’ll look at what your content needs and confirm a quote and timeline.

  2. Personalize your design

    We work out the fonts, headings, and page layouts, giving recurring elements like recipes, exercises, sidebars, and captions a consistent place on the page.

  3. See a sample first

    We design a few sample pages using your most complex content, so you can see the layout working before we lay out the full book. You can ask for changes at this stage.

  4. We format the interior

    Once you approve the samples, we lay out every page, placing your images, tables, figures, and footnotes.

  5. Review, revise, deliver

    You review the full proof and we make revisions. We check the final PDFs against your platform’s requirements, then deliver them with a style guide for future books.

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of books need a custom interior?
Any book where the layout has to do more than hold running text: cookbooks, workbooks and journals, photo books, illustrated non-fiction, anthologies, and books with lots of sidebars, tables, or figures.
How is this different from standard print formatting?
Standard print formatting suits fiction and text-led non-fiction, where every page follows the same few patterns. Custom interior design is for books with recipes, worksheets, photo layouts, sidebars, or tables, where different kinds of pages each need their own layout. If you’re unsure, send a few sample pages and we’ll recommend the right service.
How long does it take?
Allow up to 4 weeks from manuscript handoff to final files. We’ll confirm the schedule after reviewing your book. If you have a deadline, tell us when you get in touch.
Can you work with my photos and illustrations?
Yes. Send them at the highest resolution you have. For print, images should be 300 dpi at the size they’ll appear on the page. We check every image before layout and flag any that fall short, so you can replace them or decide how to use them.
Can you match an existing book’s look?
Yes. Send us examples you like and tell us what appeals to you. We’ll use them as a starting point for your book.
Can you make an ebook edition too?
Yes, quoted separately. The right ebook format depends on your content and where you plan to publish, and we’ll explain the options before you decide. See the ebook conversion page for details.
